WORK ETHIC, TIME, AND SOLUTIONS

It is truly a shame in these times that we live so many kids and adults have such a poor work ethic. I just don't understand how those kids will make it through life as adults and how adults are making it through life now. When I think about many members of the G-Force gymnastics team and how none of the kids are required to attend more than either 2 or 3 practices a week but, by their own choice attend practices 3, 4, and 5 days a week, I am totally blown away by their drive, enthusiasm, and determination. They improve their gymnastics abilities proportionally to not just the number of hours or days that they want to do gymnastics but also the quality of effort during those practice times. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out, that 2 individuals with pretty much the same qualities and abilities and one of the individuals spends more time working and/or preparing for proficiency in any given task, the person dedicating more hours is going to progress faster in reaching their goals. That is why I am so proud that so many gymnasts in our program choose to practice extra days. Some of our kids have personally chosen to work up to 5 days a week during this summer. The results are exactly as you would expect, the rate at which they improved was greatly increased. WVGTC has offered these extra workout days for some 10 years now. However, 5 days has only been offered as of this past June. As mentioned above the key to extra time has been and always will be most beneficial when the effort is both proportional to the time and very consistent. However, the kids that recently have chosen to practice as much as 5 days a week have really shown truly how much additional quality practice time can enhance their abilities. 5 days a week is certainly not for everyone and we don't even offer it to everyone. We are aware of the fact that each individual wanting to attend extra practice time must be able to do so in a safe and productive way. When I hear people saying that they are satisfied with a program that only offers a small maximum amount of practice hours regardless of the needs, desire, and abilities of the gymnast, I get very confused. Knowing that our gymnasts are not forced in any way to attend any more practices than what is reasonable I feel that our kids have the best of both worlds. There are some essential variables needed by programs to be able to offer extended practice hours. The 1st and foremost are the kids that want to do so and do so in a productive manner. The 2nd is that the facility must be able to provide adequate training stations for several activities taking place at one time. (Classes, boys and girls teams and enough stations for everyone to stay busy and productive without overlapping one another.) This is important for efficiency and for the various programs to work simultaneously. WVGTC has worked extremely hard to continually upgrade our training facility and training stations to where now it has become a very elaborate system. The 3rd element is to have staff members that are willing and able to work with the various levels of gymnasts in prescribed groups 5 days a week and anywhere from 3.5 to 5 hour long practice times productively. The final variable is of course the families willing and able to get their gymnast to these practices. There is also a very clear understanding about extra practices. That is if the practices are determined to be interfering with schoolwork then they must be cut back. This is a very strong policy that must be enforced. Ultimately, the gymnast is the biggest variable of them all. Without the talent, work ethic, determination, support, goal setting, and longevity the other elements may all be for naught. With that being said those individuals lacking natural talent can and have become extremely high level and quality gymnasts with all of the other factors along with the extra time. This has shown to be true over and over again.
Let's face it the number of extremely naturally talented kids walking into any gym is extremely rare and all the talent in the world will go nowhere without a GREAT WORK ETHIC. IF THERE WERE ANYTHING THAT CAN CHANGE OUR SOCIETY IN REGARD TO PRODUCTIVITY IT WOULD BE TO INCREASE THE WORK ETHIC OF INDIVIDUALS ACROSS THE BOARD. AND THERE IS AN ULTIMATE SOLUTION TO PROBLEMS WAY BEYOND PRODUCTIVITY, WAY BEYOND BECOMING A GREAT GYMNAST. AND IT IS SO VERY SIMPLE! PUT YOUR FAITH IN GOD!!! HAVE HIM LEAD YOUR LIFE AND LIFE WILL BE GOOD.
LIFE IS GOOD! GOD IS GREAT!!
